we met with Lafia and Kady, founders of Muffin Sisters — a family-run company founded by two sisters with Malian and Polish roots.
Lafia and Kady share more about their experience starting a business, becoming a vendor at Black Girl Festival and their plans for growing her business.
How would you describe your brand/ business?
We are creating African inspired baby accessories for the next generation while helping parents to cultivate rich African culture and maintain their heritage.conversations.
Why did you want to be a part of Black Girl Festival?
We wanted to be a part of this amazing community of women who make, create and run small and bigger black-owned businesses. We knew that participating in this event will allow us to showcase our products to a wider audience and also meet brands who we would love to collaborate with us in the future.
How was being a vendor at the festival?
That was the best event for us! Everything was really well organized and Black Girl Festival team was extremely helpful. We shared space with another brand and it worked really well both of us. Possibility to prepare the stall a day before, allowed us to organize the space and showcase our products in the best way. Your festival attracted a large crowd although there was still plenty of room for people to walk between stalls so every one of us was well exposed.
What was it like being surrounded by other businesses owned by Black British women?
It was great to meet all of them. They inspired and motivated us. It was great to have the opportunity to talk, listen and share stories about our journeys, the positive parts but also the struggles.
What does community mean to you?
Community to us is belonging to the group of fellow businesswomen. Together we can achieve much more by encouraging, inspiring and motivating each other to achieve our goals and help when we are lost.
