GIRLHOOD by BGF - Powered by Jordan
We’re really pleased to finally announce that we are officially part of the Jordan family!🎉✨
It’s a huge honour for Black Girl Fest to be selected as part of the Jordan Grantee Initiative. Over the past 2 years, we’ve been working tirelessly, researching, developing and designing a brand new project for young Black girls. As a Creative Studio building projects with purpose we knew we had to do something for the girls!
With Jordan’s support, we launched Girlhood by BGF - a new project offering events, programmes and creative opportunities for young Black girls aged 13-18. We kickstarted with our very first programme in the summer @ the Nike HQ and have big ambitions to take this work even further in the future.
“For us at Black Girl Fest, IMPACT is CHANGE!”
We’ve been working closely with teachers, parents and young people to understand how to better support young Black girls through our work. Since the launch of our first Girlhood programme, we’ve seen this cohort develop creative writing skills and learn to embrace their Blackness all whilst making new friends + lots more.
We’re especially proud of young girls like Sulat Olaibi who was so inspired by the programme that she’s now on a mission to speak to more young girls from schools across London. Sulat and the many girls we’ve supported are a testament to the power of paying it forward and our belief that if you champion young people you can open doors to a wonderful future.
Huge thank you to the team over at Jordan for not just supporting our work but aligning with our belief that Black girls should feel seen, inspired and have access to support.
We are incredibly excited to produce such exciting work and are always keen to work with collaborators, educators or creative people who want to get involved, so if you’d like to get involved, get in touch - info@blackgirlfest.com
