BGF Studios Presents
A new creative project shedding light on the profound significance of African women in the creative industry.
PURPOSE
A study by ArtTactic found that only 7% of the top 500 artists in Africa’s art market are women, highlighting the gender disparity that persists in the industry.
In addition, limited access to funding, minimal institutional support and the expectations placed upon women continue to shape their career paths.
As a result, their artistic contributions have often been overlooked, downplayed and dismissed.
MISSION
Obaasima aims to generate new knowledge of creative and cultural industries across the continent.
We hope to enhance the cultural imprint of African women through collaboration, connection and co-creation.
LAUNCHED IN GHANA
In January 2025, Obaa Sima kicked off in Accra, Ghana with the first of a series of events designed to elevate and support African women in the creative industry.
In collaboration with Palm Moments, we invited artists, creative entrepreneurs and thought leaders to join us for a night of inspiration, celebration, and networking.
Our attendees engaged in a panel discussion with women in Ghana’s creative fields who shared their journeys, insights, and dreams for the future.

A new funding pot offering micro-grants for women-led creative projects
PURPOSE
Recognising the challenges women face in Ghana’s creative industry - including limited access to funding, scarce mentorship, and constrained resources - this fund will contribute to project costs and living expenses, helping women maintain stability as they bring their ideas to life.
This year we’re awarding ONE Ghanaian creative the opportunity to access £500 worth of funding to complete a creative project plus an additional £50 to cover living expenses.
