#InConversation with Madam Ori
#BGFCommunity is our new spotlight series featuring brands and businesses led by Black women and non-binary people.
This month, we meet Alexandria Aggrey-Madamori, founder of Madam Ori — a luxury skincare range which primarily uses Shea Butter as the main ingredient and is formulated with other naturally derived ingredients, which is not only of high quality but affordable and effective for everyone.
Alexandria shares more about her experience starting a business, becoming a vendor at Black Girl Festival and her plans for growing her business.
How would you describe your brand/business?
The range includes African Black Soap (Alata Samina), Body Butter, Body Scrub, Massage and Body Oil, Beard Oil, Toner and has since extended to include Body Care and Home Fragrance as part of their exclusive range.
Madam Ori is dedicated to changing the way people treat their skin. By using high-quality botanical extracts and essential oils, beneficial for the skin and hair, it is possible to transform the condition of your skin, as there is a regimen for every skin type. The regimen just needs to stay simple with ingredients that do not cost the earth. . . literally!
Why did you want to be a part of Black Girl Festival?
I wanted to be a part of a community that celebrated and honoured women of colour and endorsed their skills, talents and achievements all in one space and I felt that is what sums up the black girl festival plus the additional perks of building and maintaining relationships.
How was being a vendor at the festival?
Being a vendor was a surreal experience, it was a privilege to be part of the movement and it was amazing to meet and put faces to the names of some of our clients who had been purchasing for years.
What was it like being surrounded by other businesses owned by Black British women?
It was an amazing place to be uplifted with all the talent and black magic.
What does community mean to you?
Community is coming together regardless of our differences. Standing as a unified pillar of hope and faith.
