#InConversation with Everyday Froday
#BGFCommunity is our spotlight series featuring brands and businesses led by Black women and non-binary people.
we met with Sade and Steph, founders of — Everyday Froday a casual streetwear brand that aims to push the culture forwards by using slogans that wink at the Black experience.
Sade and Steph share more about their experience starting a business, becoming a vendor at Black Girl Festival and their plans for growing their business.
Why did you want to be a part of Black Girl Festival?
We love what Black Girl Fest stands for, as we share the same sentiments of uplifting our community and culture through the lens of the British Black experience. It’s the one event where we feel totally comfortable to be ourselves.
How was being a vendor at the festival?
It was a fantastic experience! To see our customers face to face, interact and get feedback on our ranges was super helpful and rewarding. We managed to sell lots of our product to our amazing core audience so it was definitely a win-win situation! Can’t wait for the next one.
What was it like being surrounded by other businesses owned by Black British women?
It was extremely inspiring and uplifting. Surrounded by other businesses that look like us is always a privilege and we do not take that uniqueness lightly. Also, it gave an insight into how much Black women are making a mark and were exciting to see all the different types of businesses. We’re able to network and start business opportunities to work together in the future, which in itself is priceless.
What does community mean to you?
To us, a community can mean a lot of things. What stands out the most to us is a sense of unity through similar shared experiences. Growing up Black in the UK is a unique experience that is tied to a specific group of people. We think there are beauty and power in that.
Being able to relate to people you don’t know personally all over the world through these similar experiences and values, creates a sense of belonging and a sense of family. And we feel we must protect our communities at all costs!
