#BGFSpotlight - Big Hair

This month for our #BGFCommunity spotlight, we spoke with Melissa Sinclair, founder of Big Hair — a plant-powered afro and curly hair care brand, with a sustainable and wellness centred outlook.

“AMAZING! It’s hands down, the best event we’ve been a vendor at to date”

How would you describe your brand?

A plant-powered afro and curly hair care brand, with a sustainable and wellness centred outlook.

Why did you want to be a part of Black Girl Fest?

It speaks to who we are as a brand — a community of Black Women — and also speaks to the Big Hair Community, who love being in physical spaces with women who are like them.

How was being a vendor at the festival?

AMAZING! It’s hands down, the best event we’ve been a vendor at to date.

“To be in a space filled with likeminded women on a similar entrepreneurial journey is really good for the soul”

What was it like being surrounded by other businesses owned by Black British women?

Uplifting! To be in a space filled with like-minded women on a similar entrepreneurial journey is really good for the soul. I had so many beautiful conversations and saw so many amazing new brands that I hadn’t come across before, that I can now support, and caught up with brand owners that I know and love — which felt like a reunion.

“People who just get it. People on the same wavelength. Feeling like home”

What does community mean to you?

People who just get it. People on the same wavelength. Feeling like home.

Like that moment when you see another black woman, give each other a knowing nod and smile that makes you feel warm inside, and know that you both ‘get it’ — but over and over again.
